Depending on which organism is performing saprotrophic nutrition, they are grouped as saprophytic bacteria, saprophytic fungi and saprophytic plants. Sometimes, based on usage, divisions are made. e.g. Earthworm feeds on detritus (macroscopic) and Mushroom (microscopic lysis of detritus).
