What do we mean by close packed structure?
The particles in the crystal arrange themselves with least vacant space.
As we discussed in the video, 'close packing' refers to an arrangement where the particles have the least (or close to least) possible space between them.
This happens because of the tendency of any system to reduce its potential energy by surrounding itself with as many particles (opposite charged) as possible. This increases the stability of the system and is thereby preferred.
It leads to a regular arrangement as seen in crystals.
