What do you understand by the Mansabdari system and why did it fail?

The Mansabdari system was administrative system of the Alauddin Khi/alji. The word Manasb is of Arabic origin meaning rank or position. The system,hence, determined the rank of government officials. It was a system whereby nobles were granted the right to hold a jagir.

The Mansabdars got their salaries from Emperor and paid themselves salaries to their troops,because of this system the troops more loyal to Mansabdars than to the King.

The system proved very expensive.These are two main reason behind failure of this system.
