Prokaryotic cell:

  1. The cell in which the genetic material is not surrounded by any membrane, it is suspended freely in the cell which is also called the nucleoid
  2. The prokaryotic cell lacks membrane-bound organelles such as the Endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria, and Golgi apparatus.
  3. Bacteria, archaea, and cyanobacteria are prokaryotic organisms.

Example: Archaebacteria:

  1. The single-celled prokaryotic organisms live in highly saline, acidic, and anaerobic conditions.
  2. Archaebacteria differ from bacteria in cell structure, this feature is responsible for their survival in extremely harsh conditions.
  3. The archaebacteria which live in saline conditions are called halophiles, while archaea that live in marshy areas are called methanogens.
