Question

What is a semipermeable membrane?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Semipermeable membrane is a biological membrane, which functions by permitting the movement of certain molecules or ions to pass through it.
  2. In semipermeable membrane, ‘semi’ means ‘half or partial’, and ‘permeable’ means ‘able to permission’.
  3. As the membrane gives permission to only certain molecules for ‘in and out’ of the cell, so it is called a semipermeable membrane.
