Mutation :

  1. A change or alteration in the DNA sequences of an organism is called a mutation.
  2. Exposure to the chemicals, errors in DNA replication and viral infections can cause mutations.

Deletion mutation:

  1. It is a type of frameshift mutation characterized by the loss of one or more nucleotides from the segment of DNA.
  2. Example of deletion mutation is DiGeorge syndrome.
  3. DiGeorge syndrome is a disorder caused due to the deletion of a small segment of chromosome 22.
  4. This syndrome causes delayed growth, bluish skin color, poor blood circulation, underdeveloped chin, breathing problems, poor muscular development, and gastrointestinal problems.
  5. Other genetic diseases caused due to deletion mutation are Cystic fibrosis and cat cry syndrome.
