Fractions represents part of a whole.

The bottom number (the denominator) says how many parts the whole is divided into the top number (the numerator) says how many parts we have.

Proper fraction: numerator is less than the denominator. for example : $\frac{3}{4}$

Improper fraction: numerator is greater than or equal to denominator. for example : $\frac{4}{3}$

Mixed number: whole number and a fraction. for example : 2 whole $\frac{1}{3}$

Equivalent fractions: fractions that represent the same number. for example : $\frac{3}{4}$ and $\frac{9}{12}$ are equivalent fractions.
