In both 2 celled or 3 celled stage of pollen release, the generative cell forms two sperm cells and the vegetative cell forms the pollen tube. On pollen germination, the vegetative cell bursts to form the pollen tube but its nucleus is still present in the tube till the tube reaches the synergids. Hence, the pollen tube consists of 3 nuclei (two of male gametes and one of the vegetative cell) and two sperm cells.
