ATP or Adenosine triphosphate is the energy currency of the cell. It is a molecule with high-energy unstable bonds. The huge amount of energy released as a result of the hydrolytic removal of the phosphate groups from the ATP molecule is used for the various metabolic reactions inside the cells.
