Open in App
Solution

Functions of endoplasmic reticulum:

  1. Endoplasmic Reticulum is a complex network of tubular membranes exclusively present in the cytoplasm of the eukaryotic cell.
  2. It is composed of two forms: RER and SER.
  3. Smooth endoplasmic reticulum, SER, is involved in the synthesis of fat and steroid hormones.
  4. Smooth endoplasmic reticulum helps in the muscle contraction by the release and uptake of calcium ions.
  5. Rough endoplasmic reticulum, RER, provides the surface for protein synthesis.
  6. Packaging of proteins which are further sent to the Golgi apparatus for processing takes places at the rough endoplasmic reticulum.
