Question

What type of inheritance pattern shows both traits in possible offspring?

Open in App
Solution

Codominance:

  1. It is a type of dominance where the offspring show similarity to both the parents and it is due to the blending of alleles.
  2. When both the parental characters are exhibited by the F1 generation, this is called codominance.
  3. The offspring is going to be a combination of both the parent.

Example:

  1. One of the best examples of codominance is the ABO blood group system.
  2. There are various types of red blood cells such as A, AB, O, and B with or without having the Rh factor.
  3. The difference is in the antigen present on the red blood cell surface which determines the specific blood group in an organism.
  4. The gene i regulates the ABO blood types in humans. IA, IB, and i are its three alleles.
  5. Six distinct genotypes are possible because there are three different alleles.
