X is the number of CO2 molecules required to balance the chemical reaction.

On the R.H.S there are 6 carbon atoms and 18 oxygen atoms. On L.H.S there are 6 oxygen atoms already and need 12 more.
There is also a deficit of 6 carbon atoms on L.H.S. Therefore the value of X has to be 6 to get a balanced chemical reaction.
