Solution

Plasmolysis:

  1. Plasmolysis is said to be a process in which contraction or shrinkage of the protoplasm of a plant cell occurs which is caused due to loss of the water in the cell.
  2. Plasmolysis is an example of osmosis.
  3. When a cell is placed in the hypertonic solution, water moves from the cell to its outside.
  4. This result in shrinkage of the cytoplasm.
  5. This cell is called the plasmolylsed cell.
  6. The cell usually becomes flaccid.
  7. Cell that has lost water and there is a gap between the cell wall and the protoplasm is called as the flaccid cell.
  8. In such conditions, turgor pressure (TP) becomes zero.
  9. Turgor pressure is called the pressure which pushes the plasma membrane against the cell wall.
