Solution

Splitting of water molecules in presence of light, release protons, electrons and oxygen is called Photolysis of water.

This was first experimentally proved by Robert HIill.

It occurs in the lumen of the chloroplasts.

It is an important step in photosynthesis, because, by this step, oxygen released into the atmosphere and electrons and protons are donated to photosynthesis.
