Question

which is maximum soluble in water among SILVER HALIDES?? AgI, AgBr, AgCl, AgF ? WHY?

Open in App
Solution

Dear User,

As the size of anion increases, the tendency to polarise cation increases and therefore, the covalent character increases. Covalent compounds are insoluble in water. Therefore, AgF will be the most ionic compound and so it will be most soluble in water while AgI will be the least soluble.
The decreasing order of solubility in water is : AgF > AgCl > AgBr > AgI
