Question

which is more covalent and why (BeCl2 or LiCl) ?

Open in App
Solution

BeCl2 is more covalent than LiCl.
According to Fajan's rule more the polarisation, more will be the covalent character.
Polarisation α1 Charge of cationThat is smaller the size, more will be the polarisation. Then more will be the covalent character. Among Li+ and Be2+, Be2+ size is small. So its having high polarisation and more covalent character.
