Solution

The correct option is A Increases in going from N2 to N+2, decreases in going from O2 to O+2
Bond order = 1/2×[(Number of electrons in bonding molecules) - (Number of electrons in antibonding molecules)]

Bond order = 1/2×(NBNAB)

1. N2:

valence electrons=5+5=10

(σ2s)2(σ2s)2(σ2p)2(π2p)4

BO=1/2×(60)=3;

2. N+2:

valence electrons=5+51=9

(σ2s)2(σ2s)2(σ2p)2(π2p)3

BO=1/2×(50)=2.5;

3.O2:

valence electrons=6+6=12

(σ2s)2(σ2s)2(σ2p)2(π2p)4(π2p)2

BO=1/2×(62)=2;

3.O+2:

valence electrons=6+61=11

(σ2s)2(σ2s)2(σ2p)2(π2p)4(π2p)1

BO=1/2×(61)=2.5;

Since, bond length 1bond order

Order of bond length is: N2<N+2 and O2>O+2

Hence, option A is correct.
