Water is a polar molecule. There will be a slight positive charge on Hydrogen and negative charge on Oxygen. Due to the polar nature Hydrogen of one molecule is attracted by Oxygen of other molecule and vice versa. A small bond is formed known as Hydrogen bong. This attraction depends on temperature and the higher the temperature more kinetic energy, so more vibrations that leads to breakage of bond occurs.

When water is heated from 0C, the density of water first increases from 0C to 4C and then decreases above 4C to 10C. On the other hand, on cooling water from 10C, the density of water first increases up to 4C and then decreases when it is cooled below 4C to 0C. Thus, the density of water is maximum at 4C which is equal to 1 gmcm3. In the figure, the Y-axis represents Densitygmcm3, the X-axis represents the temperature T in Celsius.
