Primary structure of protein refers to the linear chain of amino acids produced by linking together of amino acids through peptide bonds. The peptide bonds are formed by condensation reaction between amino group of one amino acid and carboxylic group of another amino acid in which the amino group loses a proton and carboxylic group loses a hydroxyl ion and the two are removed as one molecule of water. Similarly condensation reactions form the basis of most of the polymerisation reactions between biomolecules where bio-polymers are formed by removal of water molecules between the reacting molecules.
