Solution

The correct option is C Only II
In Griffith’s experiment, Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus) bacteria was the experimental bacteria.
In 1928, the bacterial transformation was shown by Frederick Griffith in his experiments on Streptococcus pneumoniae. He took two strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria, R(non-virulent) and S(virulent) strains. The S-strain was encapsulated with mucous (polysaccharide) while the R strain was not. It was observed that heat-killed S-strain in the medium having live R-strain was able to transform the R (non-virulent) strain to S (virulent) strain. He stated that something was being passed on from the heat-killed S-strain bacteria to the live R-strain bacteria causing the latter to transform into live S-strain bacteria.
This was possible due to the transfer of genetic material. However, the biochemical nature of the genetic material could not be found out by his experiments.
