Solution

The correct option is D Solvation is the process by which water molecules surround and interact with solute ions or molecules
When we dissolve a solute in water, the bonds that are holding the crystals need to be broken and the energy needed to separate them is called lattice energy. Some amount of energy is released into solution when water molecules surround the solute molecules which is called hydration energy. When the hydration energy is greater than the lattice energy, solvation occurs spontaneously.
Solvation is the process by which solvent molecules surround the solute molecules. When the solvent is water, it is called hydration.
