Solution:
  • Thousands of years ago people did not know how to cultivate their own food.
  • One way to obtain food was to collect food items such as wild berries, fruits, vegetables, edible roots, etc. This method of obtaining food was called gathering.
  • Another method of obtaining food was by hunting small animals and birds.
  • The people who used to obtain food by hunting and gathering were called ‘hunter-gatherers’.
  • They used to face various problems such as:
  1. What can be eaten?
  2. Where does the plant grow and when does it bear fruits?
  3. Whether the food can be eaten raw or does it need to be cooked?
  4. Where do the animals live and their behavior?
  • These hunter-gatherers collected all this information over many years and passed it to the next generation.
