Astronauts need radio to talk to each other because radio uses electromagnetic waves for communication. Electromagnetic waves can easily travel in vacuum.
Sound waves need medium to propagate. Moon doesn't have medium to a propagate sound waves .Thatwhy, it is preferred to have radio for communication.
