Question

Why do dry cells have high internal resistance

Open in App
Solution

Dry cells are basically of two types- Primary and Secondary. We always mainly concentrate on Primary dry cell. Examples are -
  • Zinc-carbon cells, also known as Leclanché cells
  • Alkaline cell
  • Lithium cell
  • Mercury cell
They generally have high internal resistance because primary dry cells are not rechargeable and are generally disposed of after their chemicals have been used up through the cell's internal reaction. And so a high internal resistance is required to complete the internal reactions
