Why is a sharp needle able to pierce through the skin but a broad and wide substance not ?

As pressure is inversely proportional to area so in case of needle area is less so presurre is more but in case of broad and wide substance area is more so pressure is reduced hence a sharp needle pierces the wood easily.Eventhough force applied is same
