Pure genetic diseases caused in human DNA, by a single error in a single gene are monogenic disorders. A genetic disorder can be of three formes

  • Single gene disorder – one gene is affected (for example sickle cell anaemia).
  • Chromosomal disorders- the disorders in which chromosomes or parts of chromosomes are missing.
  • Complex disorders – In these disorders there are mutations in two or more genes.
