Aryabhata
  • Aryabhata was a renowned astronomer and mathematician who made significant contributions to the fields of Astronomy and Mathematics. It is believed that he invented the number zero. He was also the first Indian to achieve mastery over Algebra.
  • He reiterated the fact that solar and lunar eclipses happen due to the rotation of the Earth about its axis and its revolution in its orbit around the Sun.
  • The Government of India presents the Aryabhata Award to great scientists.
Varahamihira
  • Varahamihira was a renowned astronomer who wrote the Panchasiddhantika. This book is regarded as the Bible of Astronomy. He also wrote the Bruhat Samhita, Bruhat Jataka, and the Laghu Jataka.
  • He was also a scholar of Astrology, Geography, and Meteorology, etc.
