The process of planting seeds into the soil is known as sowing.
The tool used traditionally for sowing seeds was funnel shaped. Here, the seeds were filled into the funnel, which then passed down through two or three pipes that had sharp ends. These ends pierce into the soil and place seeds there.
Nowadays, a seed drill is used for sowing with the help of tractors.
Seed drill ensures that seeds are sown uniformly at proper distance and depth.
It also ensures that seeds get covered by soil after sowing.
