Merger of Junagadh:
  • The Nawab of Junagadh wrote an instrument of accession to join Pakistan. Pakistan gave the consent.
  • His citizens revolted against him and took to the streets.
  • The King fled and the Dewan requested the Indian Government to send the military to Junagadh to maintain law and order.
  • Later, Junagadh joined the Indian federation in 1949.
Merger of Hyderabad:
  • Nizam of Hyderabad wanted to remain independent and refused to join the Independent India.
  • Under the leadership of communists, the farmers of the state revolted against the Nizam and Zamindars.
  • Nizam's cruel army called the 'Razacks' started committing atrocities on the people of Hyderabad.
  • The Government of India sent its military to Hyderabad and defeated the Nizam and integrated Hyderabad into India in 1948.
