Instructions:
Mention the events that led to Hyder Ali coming to power.
Solution:
After the death of Aurangzeb, the Mughal empire was weak. As a result they lost political control over South India. Various political struggles took place in the Carnatic region. The death of Chikkadevaraj Wodeyar in 1704 created the various political challenges related to succession and administration in the Mysore state.
Hyder Ali took advantage of this scenario of uncertainty that clouded over the Mysuru and carnatic region. He had joined the Mysore Army as an ordinary soldier, but was known for his shrewd political moves. He came into prominence during the siege of Devanahalli and military action against the Nizam of Arcot.
