BCG:

  1. The full form is Bacillus Calmette-Guerin
  2. It is a vaccine for tuberculosis treatment.
  3. It makes use of a live TB bacterium that has been altered in the lab so that it won't sicken healthy people.
  4. One intradermal BCG injection is given at the site of deltoid insertion.
  5. It creates a protective barrier against the bacterium that causes tuberculosis.
  6. It is advised that healthy infants receive one dose of BCG as soon as possible after birth in nations where tuberculosis or leprosy are prevalent.
