  4. It is also a vasoconstrictor, which means that it can constrict blood vessels at high concentrations.

ADH Process:

  1. The antidiuretic hormone is important in controlling a person's blood pressure.
  2. The hypothalamus produces ADH, which causes the kidneys to absorb water from the blood that passes through them.
  3. The higher the level of ADH in our bodies, the more water we absorb.
  4. When the kidneys absorb more water, the urine produced is more concentrated.
  5. This is due to the fact that water re-enters the bloodstream, increasing blood volume. When the volume of blood increases, so does the blood pressure.
  6. This means that increased ADH secretion leads to increased water absorption by the kidneys.
  7. High levels of ADH can cause blood vessels to constrict, increasing blood pressure.
  8. When ADH secretion is reduced, the kidneys absorb less water.
  9. The urine that is produced is diluted.
  10. Because the volume of blood decreases, the blood pressure decreases as well.
  11. Low levels of ADH can cause blood vessels to dilate, decreasing blood pressure.
