Question

Why is fertilisation not possible without pollination?

Open in App
Solution

Pollination:

  1. Pollination is the process of transfer of pollen grain to the stigma of the female reproductive organ.
  2. Pollination helps in the fertilisation (fusion of male and female sex gamete) process as it exposes the pollen to the ovary.
  3. It makes sure that the male gametes are made available to travel through the pollen tube to their female counterpart.
  4. In case pollination does not occur, the gametes will not fuse to produce zygote.
  5. As a result, fertilisation will not occur.
