Let the required number be x.
It is given that 9 added to twice this number gives 13.
$∴ 2 x + 9 = 13 \Rightarrow 2 x = 13 - 9 [t r a n s p o s i n g 9 t o R H S] \Rightarrow 2 x = 4 \Rightarrow \frac{2 x}{2} = \frac{4}{2} [d i v i d i n g b o t h s i d e s b y 2] \Rightarrow x = 2$
Hence, the required number is 2.
