Question

A ball of mass 0.1 kg is thrown against a wall... It strikes the wall normally with a velocity of 30 m/s and rebounds with a velocity of 20 m/s. Calculate the change in momentum of the ball...

Solution

The change in momentum is
final momentum-initial momentum.
if the direction of initial velocity as positive, then the final velocity is negetive.

initial monentum=m×v
=0.1×30=3
final momentum=
0.1×-20=-2
change in momentum=
final momentum- initial momentum
=3-(-2)=3+2=5 kgm/s.
