Question

Are centrioles in plant cells?

Open in App
Solution

Centrioles:

  1. They are barrel-shaped organelles found near the nuclear envelope in the cytoplasm of animal cells.
  2. They are small-shaped microtubules that have an average length of 500mm and a diameter of 200mm.
  3. They are mostly made up of a protein called tubulin.
  4. They help in the formation of spindle fibers during cell division.
  5. They assist in the organization of microtubules, which act as the skeletal structure of the cell.
  6. They aid in determining the nucleus' and other organelles' positions within the cell.
  7. They are found in most eukaryotic cells.

Plant cell:

  1. A plant cell is a eukaryotic cell.
  2. The centriole is found in some lower plant cells while it is absent in all higher plant cells.
  3. Plant cells have spindle fiber outside the nuclear envelope so they do not need centriole during cell division.
