Solution
The correct option is D Both assertion and reason are incorrect In an in vitro fertilisation method, also called test tube baby programme, oocyte from the female and sperms from male are collected by various retrieval methods and induced to form zygote in the laboratory. The zygote or early embryos (with upto 8 blastomeres) could be transferred into the fallopian tube. This is termed as zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT). This requires the fallopian tubes of the female to be intact and in a healthy condition, so that the zygote can travel to the uterus for implantation without any difficulty. Therefore, if both the fallopian tubes are damaged then ZIFT may not be a successful conception technique.
