Question

Give equations of the reaction between hydrochloric acid and (c) iron (II) oxide

Open in App
Solution

Hydrochloric acid (HCl) is a mono-basic acid. A mono-basic acid is a substance that produces only one hydrogen ion per molecule of the acid when completely dissociated in water.

When acids metal oxides react with acids, salt, and water are produced.

Iron (II) Chloride (FeCl2) salt and water are formed when Hydrochloric acid (HCl) reacts with Iron (II) oxide FeO.

The reaction equation is as follows:

2HCl(aq)+FeO(s)FeCl2(aq)+H2O(l)
