Give reasons:

liquids and gases flow but solid do not.

Solution

Fluidity:

  • In the case of solids, the molecules are very closely packed.
  • There is a strong force of attraction between the molecules of solids and the space between them is very small.
  • Thus, molecules of solids are not free to move.
  • In the case of liquids and gases, the molecules are not so closely packed as particles of solid.
  • They do not attract each other as strongly as the molecules of solids.
  • Thus, the intermolecular spaces are larger and the molecules are able to move more freely and have the ability to flow.
