Question

How can a saturated solution be made unsaturated?

Open in App
Solution

Saturated solution:

  • A saturated solution is a solution that contains the maximum amount of solute that can be dissolved under a specific temperature gradient.

Unsaturated solution:

  • These are solutions in which the amount of dissolved solute is less than the saturation point of the solvent at that specific temperature gradient.

Dilution:

  • In order to convert a saturated solution into an unsaturated solution is by dilution process (adding more solvent).
  • On dilution, the concentration of the solution decreases thus it requires more solute to be added to it to make it a saturated solution.

Heating:

  • By heating the solution a saturated solution can be changed into an unsaturated solution.

Hence, by heating or adding solvent to the saturated solution to convert unsaturated solution.
