Solution

Hydrochloric acid is used in the preparation Sulphur dioxide by the following equation:

Na2S2O3+2HCl2NaCl+H2O+SO2+SSodiumthiosulphateHydrochloricacidSodiumchloride
Sodium thiosulphate Hydrochloric Sodium chloride water Sulphur dioxide Sulphur
1. Sodium thiosulphate reacts with Hydrochloric acid causing a disproportionation reaction to take place.
2. The property that can be seen is that it causes Sulphur to precipitate. This makes it easier for gathering the sulpur.
So, Sodium thiosulphate reacts with Hydrochloric acid to form Sodium chloride, water Sulphur dioxide and Sulphur. The property is the ability to precipitate.
