Solution

The correct option is C 5×1017
Energy released is one fission,

E1=200 MeV=200×1.6×1013 J

Energy utilized to generate electrical energy in one fission is

E1=40100×200×1.6×1013=1.28×1011 J

Total energy per second converted into electrical energy by the nuclear reactor is,

E0=Power output=6.4 MW=6.4×106 J

Thus, number of fission required per second,

n=E0E1

n=6.4×1061.28×1011

n=5×1017

Hence, option (C) is correct.
Why this question?
To understand, the concept of the total energy released and the number of fission per second required in fission process.
