A verandah of width 2.25 m is constructed all along outside a room which is 5.5 m long and 4 m wide. Find:
The cost of cementing the floor of the verandah at the rate of ₹200 per m2.

The length of room = 5.5 m and width of the room = 4 m
The length of the room with verandah = 5.5 + 2.25 + 2.25 = 10 m
The width of the room with verandah = 4 + 2.25 + 2.25 = 8.5 m
Area of verandah
= Area of room with verandah - Area of room without verandah
= Area of ABCD - Area of EFGH
=(AB×AD)(EF×EH)
=(10×8.5)(5.5×4)
=8522
=63 m2

The cost of cementing 1 m2 floor of the verandah = 200
The cost of cementing 63 m2 floor of the verandah = 200 × 63 = 12,600
