Question

Let the equation of the perpendicular bisector of the line segment joining the points (3, 4) and (1, 2) be ax + by = c. Find a + b + c.
  1. 8

Open in App
Solution

The correct option is A 8

Midpoint of the points (3,4) and (1, 2)

=(312, 4+22)=(1, 3)

Slope of a line joining points (3, 4) and (1, 2) =2413=12

Slope of the required line = 2
[as they are perpendicular]

So, equation of required line is (y3)=(2)(x1)

y3=2x+2

2x+y=5.
Here, a = 2, b = 1 and c = 5
a + b + c = 8
