Let the reduced price of the box after the discount be ₹ x. Then,

Sales tax = (9% of ₹.x) = ₹. $\left(\frac{9x}{100}\right)$

S.P = $₹(x+\left(\frac{9x}{100}\right))$ = ₹ $\left(\frac{109x}{100}\right)$

It is given that the selling price should be ₹ 981.

Therefore, $\left(\frac{109x}{100}\right)$ = 981

$\Rightarrow$ x = 900

Thus, reduced price of the box after discount = ₹ 900

Hence, the discount in the price of the box = (₹ 981 - 900) = ₹ 81.
