Rachel goes to a shop to buy a box costing Rs. 2376. The rate of the sales tax is 8%. She tells the shopkeepers to allow a discount on the price of the box to such an extent that she pays Rs. 2376 inclusive all the tax. Find the discount in the price of the box.
Rs. 176
Let the reduced price of the box after the discount be Rs. X. Then,
Sales tax = (8% of Rs.x) = Rs. (8x100)
S.P = (x+(8x100))=Rs.(108x100) It is given that the selling price should be Rs. 981.
Therefore, (108x100) = 2376
⇒ x = 2200
Thus, reduced price of the box after discount = Rs. 2200
Hence, reduction needed in the price of the box = (Rs. 2376 - 2200) = Rs. 176.
