Solution

Al13 - 1s22s22p63s23p1Al loses its three valence electron and becomes Al3+Al3+ - 1s22s22p6Cl17 - 1s22s22p63s23p5Cl accepts one electron and becomes Cl-. Cl- - 1s22s22p63s23p6 Like this three chlorine atoms accepts (each 1) the electrons lost by Al.Thus an ionic bond is formed between the two elements.
