Question

What are the five basic ideas of kinetic molecular theory?

Open in App
Solution

Kinetic theory of gases

  1. It is a sample, classical model of the thermodynamic behavior of gases.
  2. It describes a large number of atoms or molecules which are in constant, rapid, random motion.
  3. Their size is assumed to be very small than the average distance between them.

The five basic ideas of kinetic molecular theory are:

  1. Particles of gas are in constant random motion.
  2. The volume occupied by the gas molecules compared to the volume of the gas.
  3. The collision between the particles are perfectly elastic.
  4. Particles do not exert force on each other.
  5. The average kinetic energy of gas molecules is directly proportional to absolute temperature.
