-21 + 2 - (-16) - 4
= -21 + 2 + (additive inverse of -16) - 4
= -21 + 2 + 16 - 4
Grouping positive and negative integers
= -(21 + 4) + 18 ( $∵$ 2 + 16 = 18)
= -25 + 18
Here, we form pair of negative and positive integers,
= -7 - 18 + 18 ( $∵$ -7 - 18 = -25)
