(a) What is the temperature, when the pressure is 10 cm Hg?
(b) What will be the pressure, when the chamber is brought to 10C.

Solution

a)The temperature for the melting ice would be C = 273 K
1. Pressure and temperature has direct relationship.
P1/T1 = P2/T2
P1 = 100 cm Hg
T1 = 273 K
P2 = 10 cm Hg
T2 = P2 x T1/P1
 = 10 cm Hg x 273 K/100 cm Hg
= 27.3 K

2. P1/T1 = P2/T2
P1 = 100 cm Hg
T1 = 273 K
T2 = 10 + 273 = 283K
P2 = 100273×283
= 103.66 cm Hg
